Add background color in Word

In this tutorial, we are going to see how to add background colour to a document in Word 2016 and 2013. This is quite useful when you want to design your word document with some difference instead of plain background look.

Step 1: Launch Word 2013 and click the Design tab.

Step 2: Navigate to Page Background section and click Page Color dropdown.

Step 3: From the Page Color dropdown list you can pick your desired background color.

If you can not find any suitable color under Theme or Standard colors then you can go for More Colors option.

If you want to fill the document background with some pattern then select the Fill Effects option.

Fill Effects allows you add Gradient, Texture, Pattern and even background image to document.

Printing a document with background color

If you want to Print the document with background color, you might see the print preview not showing the background. The reason for this could be that “Print with background color” option is disabled.

Step 1: Click the File menu and select Options from the menu list.

Step 2: In the Word Option screen, click the Display tab.

Step 3: Navigate to Printing options and make sure to mark the checkbox with caption as “Print background colors and images”.

Step 4: Click OK button to confirm and save the changes.
