Change status to unavailable in Facebook Chat

We have already how to change the Facebook Chat status Offline. But recently there has been some changes made to Facebook Chat feature.  After the recent update the chat section now appears as a sidebar widget in Facebook portal on the bottom right hand corner

Facebook Sidebar Widget

To make yourself unavailable for Facebook chat click the down arrow available as part of chat options and make sure to un tick the Available to Chat options. This would display the following message that you are unavailable to chat.

This little how-to would be great if it told us how to PERMANENTLY disable chat. I follow your instructions which happen to be exactly the same way anyone with a brain can figure out how to disable chat, but the chat sidebar keeps popping back up and making me “available for chat” which I most definitely am not.

Is there a way to get rid of this sidebar chat thing permanently???

Did you try the other option, hide sidebar. This might solve your problem.

I don’t have that “available to chat” option. 🙁

I hate Facebook’s new chat feature. Every time I log-in I have to:

    a) Make Myself Unavailable to Chat or
    b) Hid the Chat Bar

Does anyone know how to permanently make yourself unavailable?

I had the same problem with the new chat feature – I would make myself ‘unavailable’ and after 5 minutes or some other short random period of inactivity, it would show me as ‘available’ again! ARRGH!

In order to make myself permanently ‘unavailable’ I made a list of ALL my friends (I’ve only got 134, so it didn’t take me that long) arbitrarily named ‘NO CHAT’ and proceeded to limit my availability to that group.

    So far so good…

How come when i signed out of my Facebook account and use my other Facebook account it shows my first account to be “unavailable to chat” in the chat box and this is when i already signed out.

I am not on FaceBook and still get invitations from FaceBook members I do not know. I’ve tried filtering FaceBook emails (in From, Subject, Body of email) and they still come through. How can I get rid of this annoyance?

I have just noticed that I am unavailable to chat Haley Samford. She is my granddaughter and I want to chat with her, but do not know how to remove her name. It says unavailable to

    Haley Samford
Please help me get this straightened so I am available to chat with her. This is very upsetting and do not want her to think I do not want to chat with her.
