Create desktop shortcut for sending email in Microsoft Outlook

In this short tutorial, we are going to see the steps to create desktop shortcut to quickly open new mail compose window in Microsoft Outlook. This is quite useful when your work needs sending lots of email to the same recipient. And at the same time you do not want to keep your Outlook open and gets distracted with frequent emails that you receive in your Inbox but should be able to send emails.

This example uses Windows 8 Operating System installed with Outlook 2013

Step 1: Navigate to desktop on Windows 8 system.

Step 2: Right click on the desktop and select New followed by Shortcut sub menu option.

Step 3: Now enter the email address in Type the location of the item field. Prefix the email address with mailto keyword – mailto:<email-address>

Step 4: Click Next button and enter a name for the shortcut in “Type a name for this shortcut”.

Step 5: Then click Finish button to place the shortcut in your desktop.

Now when you click the shortcut, a new Outlook message window prepopulated with recipient email address will be displayed.
