Find average of 2 largest or smallest numbers in Google Spreadsheet

This tutorial explains the AVERAGE, LARGE and SMALL function with an example that calculates the average of 2 largest or smallest numbers in Google Spreadsheet.

Let us take the above example and find out the average of first two largest and smallest marks scored by the students. The formula for calculating the average of first two largest numbers is

=AVERAGE(LARGE(C4:C13,1),LARGE(C4:C13,2))

Where C4:C13 refers to the data range of Marks scored by the student.

You can simplify the above formula =AVERAGE(LARGE(C4:C13,{1,2}))

Similarly to calculate the average of first two smallest numbers is =AVERAGE(SMALL(C4:C13,{1,2}))

Definition of Average, Large and Small functions as mentioned in Google Docs.
