How to add background in Excel

Excel 2016 and 2013 users can customize the look of a worksheet by adding background image. Let say you have got the following worksheet and want to add background image to it.

Step 1: Click the Page layout tab and navigate to Page Setup section.

Step 2: In the Page Setup section, click the Background option.

Step 3: Now you can choose the background image from a file, Office.com Clip Art, Bing Image search etc..

We are going to use Bing image search for this demo. Enter a search text such as “nature” in the Search Bing field.

Step 4: Choose a background image from the list and click the Insert button.

Step 5: Now if you want format the text colour from black to white to match the background image, navigate to Home tab. Select all the cells in Worksheet (Ctrl + A) and choose the colour under Font section.

Step 6: We could see the gridlines in the Worksheet does not go well with background image. You can turn off the gridlines using the option provided as part of View tab.

Click the View tab, navigate to Show section and unmark the check box with caption as Gridlines.

Now your worksheet with the background image should give a pleasant look.
