How to check document compatibility in Word

This tutorial is about using document compatibility checker in Word 2016 & 2013. You will find this useful when you are sharing a document created in Word with users using previous version of Word. This tool will help us to find out whether document created in Word 2016 & 2013 will be compatible with previous versions.

Checking document compatibility in Word 2013 & 2016

Step 1: Launch the Word document that you want to share with other users.

Step 2: Click the File menu and navigate to Info screen.


Step 3: Navigate to Inspect Document section and select Check Computability from the Check for Issues dropdown list. This should display the following Microsoft Word Compatibility Checker window along with summary of compatibility issues for the current document.


Step 4: Click the Select versions to show option and pick the version from the list.


This will filter out the issues based on the selected Word version.
