How to create new bullet and change numbering in word

This tutorial is about the steps required for creating custom bullets and changing number format in a document in Word 2016, 2013 and 2010.

Creating New Bullet

If you want to define new bullet other than the bullets available in the list then you can use the Define New Bullet option in Bullet Library.

Step 1: Navigate to Paragraph section under Home menu, click the arrow pointing downwards available next to the Bullet option. Then click the Define New Bullet under Bullet Library.

Step 2: In the Define New Bullet window, you can choose new symbol by clicking the Symbol button. The selected Symbol will be the custom bullet.

Step 3: You can also upload pictures to keep the picture as Bullet. This can be done by clicking the Picture Bullet button then on the Import button.

Changing Bullet Number Format

Word 2010 also allows user to change the bullet number format using the option available as part Numbering dialog box.

Step 1: Navigate to Paragraph section under Home menu, click the arrow pointing downwards available next to the Numbering option. Then click the Define New Number Format under Numbering Library

Step 2: In the Define New Number Format window, you can change the Number Style, Number Format, alignment and also the Font.

For example, if you want to have number followed by asterisk instead of colon then define the Number format as 1*

    This tell me nothing at all . How do you make a new style?

    This tutorial does not address changing the indentation space for new or existing bullet styles. What happened to this option with Word 2010?
