How to display results inside shapes in Excel

Here are the steps required for displaying any calculation result or cell value inside shapes in Excel 2016, 2013 and 2010. Let us see this with an example that displays the max of marks obtained in a shape.

Step 1: Create the required Data set.

Step 2: Select the cell to calculate the Max of marks, in the example above the value for is C8 =MAX(C5:C7)

Step 3: Click the Insert menu and navigate the Illustrations section. Click the Shapes option and select 12 point star from the Stars and Banners section.

Step 4: Now draw the shape on your excel worksheet.

Step 5: After selecting the star shape, navigate to formula bar and select the cell value (C8) that needs to be displayed inside the shape.

Alignment of result text

If you want to keep the alignment of the result text to Center then right click on the shape and select Format Shape option.

Click the Text Box section in the Format Shape window. Navigate to Text layout and set the value for Vertical alignment as Middle Centered. Then close the Format Shape window by clicking the Close button.
