Please do the registry changes at your own risk as incorrect changes might make the system unstable.

For example, if you have installed Edit Plus on your Windows 8 and want to set Edit Plus as HTML editor then you can follow the below mentioned steps.

Copy the below content and create .reg file.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\Edit Plus]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\Edit Plus\shell]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\Edit Plus\shell\edit]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList\Edit Plus\shell\edit\command]
@=”\”C:\\Program Files\\EditPlus 3\\editplus.exe\” /n \”%1\” /o \”%u\””

Here Edit Plus refers to the name of the program that needs to appear in dropdown list. And C:\\Program Files\\EditPlus 3\\editplus.exe\ refers to the executable path of your editor.

Executable Path in Edit Plus

Check path of the executable and save the .reg file. Then double click the .reg file to import the registry settings for the new HTML Editor. The following warning message will be displayed.

Windows Registry Editor

Click Yes to continue adding information to Windows Registry. And after successful import, you should see the following confirmation message.
