How to insert time in Excel

Listed below are the instructions for adding current time (static and dynamic) in the Excel 2016, 2013 & 2010.

Insert Current time (Static)

Step 1: Navigate to cell where you want to show the time.

Step 2: Press Ctrl + Shift +; then Enter.

Step 3: To format the time, right click on the cell and select Format Cells option from the menu list.

Step 4: In the Format Cells window, click the Number tab and navigate to Time section under Category and pick the desired time format.

Insert Current Time (Dynamic)

Dynamic time will always show the current time whenever you reopen the saved Spreadsheet.

Step 1: Navigate to the cell where you want to have the dynamic time.

Step 2: Type = NOW() and press Enter on the Keyboard. This should insert the current date and time in the cell.

Step 3: Then use Format Cells (as described in previous Steps) to select the required time format so that it removes the date part.
