How to password protect document in Word 2011 for Mac

This article is about the settings available to protect a document in Word 2011 for Mac. Word 2011 allows users to password protect a document with the following security options

  • Password to Open document
  • Password to Modify document.
  • Protect the document for tracking changes, comments and Forms

Click the Word menu and select Preferences from the menu list.


In the Word Preferences, navigate to Personal Settings and click the Security Option.


In the Security Preferences, you can set a password to open or modify document available under Security options section.


And to protect a document from tracking changes, comments and forms, click the Protect Document button and select the required radio option and if needed provide password for each security option.
