How to quickly find the sum of selected range in Excel

Even beginners to Microsoft Excel will be aware of sum function used for calculating the total for set of numbers. But if you want to quickly find out the sum of selected ranges then you can use the option available as part of Excel Status bar.

For example, if you have got the above set of data and want to quickly see only the sum of E8:E12. Then select the range of cells and the status bar will display the sum of the selected cell values on the status bar as shown below.

If the status bar does not have any label with caption as “Sum” then right click on the status bar and make sure to tick Sum in the displayed menu list.

The other functions that are available as part of status bar are Count, Average, Count, Numerical Count, Minimum and Maximum.
