Word 2013 and Word 2010 have a option for importing recipients for mail merge from Outlook Contacts. This can be done using the Word Mailings menu. Listed below are the steps to import outlook contacts as mail merge recipients in Word 2013 and Word 2010.
In Word 2010 or 2013, click the Mailings menu.
In Mailings menu, navigate to Start Mail Merge section. Click the drop down arrow available next to Select Recipients label. This would display the following menu list. Click the Select from Outlook Contacts from list of available menus.
This would display the Select Contacts window. Click OK button after the selecting a contact folder from which you want to import contacts.
This would import the contacts in to the Mail Merge Recipients Window as shown below.
