Open page in tab instead of window on Safari

Here is the solution for Safari users who want to open the new page in a tab instead of window. Whenever you try to open a new page in Safari and if it opens the page in a new window and you want to open the page in a new tab then you can do the following.

Click the Safari menu and select Preferences from the list of menus.

In the Preferences window and navigate to Tabs.

In the Tabs section, click the drop down with label as Open pages in tabs instead of window. This would display Never, Always and Automatically and now select either Always or Automatically value for this drop down.

The main difference between Always and Automatically is that Always will open the page in a new tab even if the page was designed to open in a separate window.

By making this change you won’t have nightmare of maintaining so many open windows for each page.
