Specify boarding at option in IRCTC Online Booking System

IRCTC Online Booking System allows railway passengers to specify the “boarding at” option other than the From station. This is quite useful when you want to book tickets using the other station quota. For example if you want to travel from Madurai to Chennai and didn’t find any tickets available for that day then try booking ticket using other station quota like Kovilpatti but boarding at Madurai.

Step 1: Login to your IRCTC online account

Step 2: Select the the date of travel, From and To station name.

Step 3: Then select the train that has availability of tickets for the given preferences and click the Book option.

Step 4: in the Ticket Booking Screen, click the Train Symbol displayed next to the Boarding Point.

Step 5: Now pick the actual boarding station from the List of Stations (other than your From Station).

By this way you can book the train ticket by specifying the boarding at option. Don’t forget to try this trick on the next festive occasion.

This doesn’t work. I tried doing a booking form Hosur to Pune boarding at Bangalore, but was allotted the availability as it was for Bangalore and not for Hosur. Even Customer Care confirmed that seat allocation is done as per availability at the Boarding Point.
