Speeding up your Android Tablet

Modern tablet computers are expected to be fast and responsive. But it doesn’t happen always. Many times you will find tablet computer slowing down after weeks or months of use and you wonder what the problem with your device is. There are several reasons for your device not running fast as earlier. Many think resetting to factory defaults is the only option. Wait! Try these few tweaks that are known to speed up your tablet computer.

Avoid using Live Wallpapers:

Live Wallpapers make your screen look good but they always have a background process running that takes some processing power of your tablet. They are also known to drain battery faster. Avoid using Live wallpapers to improve performance of your tablet computer.

Uninstall unused applications:

Many times you download and install an application for some work and it continues to remain in your tablet. Look for application that you don’t use and uninstall them. Many applications are known to spawn background processes even when not in use. Uninstalling such applications frees space and reduces background processing which makes your tablet faster.

Steps to uninstall applications:

1. Tap on Apps on the Home Screen.

2. Go to Settings

3. Scroll down to Application Manager

4. Swipe the screen towards left to view the list of All application installed on you device

5. Locate the application you want to install

6. Tap on the App icon

7. Tap on Uninstall.

Disabling unused apps:

Tablets generally come with several pre-loaded applications. Some users never use these applications. Some of these applications hog memory and use processing power of device through background processes. Since these applications are factory installed, you do not have an option to uninstall them. However, you can certainly disable them which will stop the background processes related to these applications completely.

Steps to disable applications:

1. Tap on Apps on the Home Screen

2. Go to Settings

3. Scroll down to Application Manager

4. Swipe the screen towards left to view the list of All application installed on you device

5. Locate the application you want to disable

6. Tap on the App icon

7. Tap on Disable.

Disabling animations:

Animations are graphics intensive and require large amount of memory and processing power. Disabling or reducing animations (to 0.5 xs) can improve performance of your Android tablet. If you’re android tablet does not have a dedicated graphics processor or large amount of memory, it is an advisable to disable animations completely.

Steps to reduce/disable animations intensity.

1. Tap on Apps on the Home Screen

2. Go to Settings

3. Scroll down to Developer Options

4. Tap on Developer Options

5. Scroll down and tap Window Animation Scale

6. Select Animation Scale 0.5x or Animation Off

7. Repeat Step 5 and 6 for Transition Animation Scale and Animator Duration Scale.

Note: In some low-cost tablets you may not find Developer Options in the Settings Menu
